What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to keep. It lets the site recognise your browser on the next page, which is how a basket survives from one click to the next. Some are set by us, some by the companies whose tools we use.

We also use similar technologies such as local storage and pixels. Everything on this page applies to those too, even though they are not strictly cookies.

Your choice

When you first visit, a banner asks what you want to allow. Essential cookies are set either way, because the site cannot function without them and the law does not require consent for them. Nothing else is set until you accept it.

You can reopen the banner from the link in the footer and change your answer whenever you like. Withdrawing consent is exactly as easy as giving it.

The categories

Always on

Essential

These keep your basket, your checkout session and your login working, and they help block fraudulent orders. Turning them off would break the site, so they cannot be switched off here. Blocking them in your browser will stop checkout from completing.

Analytics

These tell us which pages people actually read, where they leave, and whether the site is broken on a particular device. The reports are aggregated, so they describe visitors as a group rather than as individuals. We use them to fix things, not to build a profile of you.

Advertising

These measure whether someone who saw one of our ads went on to buy, and they let us avoid showing the same ad to someone who has already ordered. If you decline, our ads still appear, we simply cannot tell which ones worked.

This list is accurate at the date below. If you install or remove a plugin, or change advertising provider, the cookies change with it and this page needs updating to match. A cookie scan every few months keeps it honest.

Cookies we do not set

We do not use social media tracking pixels, session recording or heat mapping tools, and we do not sell or share cookie data with data brokers. There is no cross-site advertising network reading your activity here.

Managing cookies in your browser

Every browser lets you block or delete cookies independently of our banner. The setting is usually under Privacy or Site settings, and each browser's help pages explain where.

Blocking all cookies affects most websites, not just this one, and will stop our checkout from working. Deleting cookies also clears your consent choice, so our banner will ask again on your next visit.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Where your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a refusal of the optional categories and do not set them. The older Do Not Track header has no agreed standard behind it, so we do not rely on it.

How this connects to your other rights

Cookies are one source of the personal data we hold. What we do with that data, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it are set out in full on our privacy policy.

If you are unhappy with how we handle cookies or personal data, tell us first at contact@giftboxbritain.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

We update this page whenever the cookies on the site change. The date at the foot of the page is the date of the most recent review.
